It is a simple game, which is easy to understand and play, and it will definitely have everyone in the group laughing and talking. Awkward silences will be a thing of the past. The best thing about playing the would you rather game is that, there is no need of a board or die, or any of the prerequisites of most party games. All you need is a set of outrageously funny questions, loads of wit to come up with new ones, and a basic understanding of the instructions for the game.
An Overview
Traditionally (if you can call it traditional), this game is the perfect icebreaker activity to indulge in. It can be played by two people on a blind date or ten people, who are at a boring party. The situation in which, the game is being played is of no importance. It is a basic conversation game, where one of the players asks some questions, where you have to choose between one of two situations, both of which would be uneasy choices to make. The questions are framed as “would you rather…?”, which is why the game is named so. This party game can be extremely funny with players having to choose between outrageous situations that you would never be faced with, in real life (hopefully). A classic sample question in this game is, would you rather bite the curb and get kicked in the back of the head or get a paper cut on your eyeball?. Sounds painful, doesn’t it? That is somewhat the point of the game. Choosing options you do not want to be confronted with ever. Given below are some other popular and funny would you rather questions.
- On a deserted island, would you rather eat an insect the size of an onion or eat a dead bird with feathers?
- Would you rather have super powers or have Christmas never end?
- Would you rather be going around naked on a day or fall asleep for a year?
- Would you rather wake up with a different face with the same gender, or a different gender with the same face?
- Would you rather be rich and ugly, or poor and good looking?
- Would you rather do the ketchup dance in front of everybody on a table or dress up as a chicken, and dance like a freak in front of everybody?
These are just some of the questions that you could ask if you are playing this game. There are many different ideas that you can come up with, depending on the comfort level you share with other players.
Instructions
If you are playing this game as an, on the spur of the moment party game, then there is no need to fret, if you do not have the board game version. You can follow a simple set of would you rather game rules to play it. The rules are very basic. One player is asked a question at one time. Once he or she has answered the question, the rest of the players answer the same question. If the majority is in agreement with the player, then he or she gets a point. The poll about the answer to the question should be anonymous to ensure fair play. There is no winner or loser in the game. It is just a fun twist to a normal truth or dare kind of a game.
Some game companies also have a board game version, where there are sets of cards with hundreds of such questions. The player whose turn it is, picks the card and answers the question on the card. These board game versions also have cards that allow the player to skip a turn, play another round, take a penalty hit, etc. The rules of the game can be modified according to the convenience of the players. The only rule that cannot be broken is that of having fun!
